Be sure about the admission requirements! - Want to go for a Bachelor, Master or a PhD in Germany? Then it is time to find out about your eligibility!

     
   

Do I have to know German? - Since the medium of instruction in the International Degree Programmes is mainly English, you are not expected to have German language skills. Instead a proof of proficiency in English, like the TOEFL or the IELTS, is often required. Nevertheless basic knowledge in German language will help you to interact with German students and to find a job. You can start learning German in India by attending a course at one of the six Max Mueller Bhavans. In addition, some Indian Universities offer German language courses.

     
   

Can I go for an Undergraduate Programme? - The best time to discover German universities is after completing a Bachelor in India. The German universities offering an International Degree Programme recognise your Bachelor, so you can directly enrol for a Master programme. At the moment, German Universities do not recognise the Indian school-leaving exam. Before being eligible for a Bachelor programme you have to successfully complete at least one year of studying in India or elsewhere.

     
   

Can I apply for a course conducted in German language? - If you want to join a course other to than one of the International Degree Programmes, then TestDaf, the test of German language proficiency, is required. You can join TestDaF at one of the Max Mueller Bhavans in India. If you are going as an undergraduate, you have to do the “Feststellungspruefung” (a general assessment test for the admission to German universities).

     
   

Am I eligible for PhD? - If you wish to do a doctorate in Germany, you must have a university degree that is equivalent to a degree gained at a German university. As equivalency is decided by the university, you should contact the chosen institution directly.

     
   

What about tests? - Most of the universities expect the TOEFL or the IELTS for an International Degree Programme. According to your study topic, some universities might ask for GMAT or GRE. There are no general assessment tests for admission; students are selected on the basis of the documents they provide.Note: Admission is at the discretion of the institution of higher education!

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) - There are three different GRE tests: the "General Test" the "Subject Test" and the "Writing Assessment".You can find out about the requirements from the respective university. For further information visit the following website: http://www.gre.org.

General Management Admission Test (GMAT) - The GMAT is the most common entrance test for MBA courses. For further information visit the following website: http://www.gmat.org

  • TOEFL / IELTS or equivalent (required by some universities)
